Newsletter Term 3 2018

Kia ora tatou! Term 3 2018

Lots has been happening in our club since the last newsletter, and there’s a whole lot more scheduled for the rest of the year too. The coaches try to post frequent updates on Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/fantasticgymnasticsNZ/ so if you haven’t already “liked” and “followed” the club, have a look at the page and catch up with some of the events and successes both at the gym and away. We’ve had gymnasts and tumblers travel and compete in North and South Island events this season. And, of course, there’s lots of learning and fun going on in classes in the holiday programme and some of the highlights can be seen on Facebook too.

WEBSITE

Look out for the launch of the Fantastic Gymnastics Inc. website. Any day now! It will have all the timetable, information about classes, competition details, upcoming events and contact details ... and much more.

COMMUNICATION

The coaches and the committee are working hard on improving and maintaining good communication, between gymnasts and coaches, coaches and parents and for administrative purposes.

  • The club has started using a software package called Friendly Manager which has been

developed expressly for sports clubs such as ours, and hopefully you are finding this shift easy and effective. Emails, invoices, event notifications and invitations all come via Friendly Manager, which links to Xero too.

  • PLEASE open emails. The club tries not to send unnecessary communications, as we know everyone’s inboxes can be overwhelming. Please open and have a quick read over Fantastic Gymnastics emails. Sometimes, especially between terms, there can be changes, for example, increases in training times or invitations for your gymnast to participate in events.

  • PLEASE include your invoice number as the transaction reference when you pay your invoice.

    ARRIVING SOON

    * Thanks to Pub Charity’s generous support, we are waiting on the delivery of a Pegasus vaulting table and competition quality springboard.
    * The club is also in the process of purchasing a short additional air floor, which will attach to our current one.
    * FUNDRAISING - A 30cm deep and 15-20m long airfloor is also on the club’s wishlist, and committee member Melody Stokes is coordinating sponsorship and fundraising to make this purchase possible. Small books of raffle tickets will be sent home with ALL gymnasts in the near future. Great prizes :)

TEAM GYM

A big shout out to the Fantastics Gymnastics Team Gym squad! They are preparing for their first “away” competition, at GymCity in Papatoetoe on September 16. Woop!

SURVEY FEEDBACK

Late last year, Gymnastics New Zealand conducted a survey of our members and we have received a report on the survey results. The areas covered by the survey were COMMUNICATION, COACHING, PROGRAMMES, OPERATIONS, CULTURE AND VALUES and FACILITIES.

The feedback was generally very positive, with the top 4 areas of satisfaction being

coaching

dedicated, committed, motivated, skilled and fun coaches who demonstrate knowledge with

patience and imagination

  • !  programmes

  • !  programmes provide options for gymnasts and allow for the progression of skills

  • !  location

  • !  culture and values

  • !  local, welcoming, healthy, patient and personal

The areas with the lowest satisfaction ratings were facilities, communication and operations.

  • !  facilities

  • !  more equipment needed, frustration at packing away gear, desire for a purpose-built facility

  • !  communication

  • !  community knowledge of gymnastics needs to be improved by greater communication

  • !  between coaches, gymnasts and parents. timetables and event information provided could

  • !  be further in advance.

  • !  operations

  • !  more recreational options, weekend classes, more competitive gym training hours.

  • !  Frustration at poor options/quality of Northland competitions and therefore need to travel.

There was a strong desire for the club to continue to grow and evolve, with LOTS of members indicating that they would love to club to offer trampolining as well as increasing and improving current gymsport options. Obviously, the biggest hurdle to offering trampolining is the space. It would be a dream to have a gym with gear permanently set up. If anyone has any grand ideas about how to go about finding or building such a space we would be delighted to hear from you!

The Committee is continuously involved with fundraising, seeking sponsorship and applying for grants to buy new apparatus.
